The Dress Project
incomplete projects, glass jars, wooden hangers, masonite & canvas platforms
dimensions variable

In the fall of 2009 in Champaign, Illinois, I found a box in family storage. There were 17 bags inside the box, each containing the required materials for different projects. None of the found projects were finished; each was in a different stage of completion. Teresa Peters had her first teaching job in Crawfordsville, Indiana, in 1977. During her first winter of teaching, these 17 projects began to accumulate. I am now nearly the same age as my mother was when she began these projects. After having been packed up for 30 years, I am picking up where Teresa left off, and completing each project. By finishing these projects, I am exploring the parallels between two lives of a mother and daughter, 30 years apart.
